Cycle Coach
Focus on what you can, not what you can’t
Karen’s happy place is cycling. Members of BEXI often see a huge smile on her face whenever she’s spotted out riding. Karen loves the freedom she feels when out riding, the adrenalin rush from hitting an all new downhill speed record and the exhaustion after a tough ride session.
Karen has always been interested in keeping fit, and through the years this has involved playing hockey, running, boxing, strength training and completing triathlons. Running was her main focus, and she completed numerous City to Surf events, and half marathons. However, in recent years ongoing knee injuries have forced a halt to her competitive running and playing hockey.
This is where Karen’s motto comes from “Focus on what you can, not what you can’t”. She discovered cycling as an alternative to running and now loves every moment out on her bike. This deep focus on cycling, along with a re-discovery of swimming, has enabled her to compete in several Aquabike events, Half-Ironman team events as well as the Jervis Bay Long Course Weekends (2017 & 2018).
Karen is keen to share her happy place, by supporting and motivating others to being confident bike riders, and to be part of the growth in women’s cycling and triathlons.
